Drag reduction plays a major role in future aircraft design order to lower emissions aviation. In transonic flight, the shock induces wave drag and thus increases overall hence emissions. past decades, control has been investigated intensively from an aerodynamic point of view proven its efficacy terms reducing drag. Furthermore, number concepts for bumps (SCBs) that can adapt their position height have introduced. The implementation adaptive SCBs requires trade-off between benefits, system complexity robustness. challenge is find with low which still generates sufficient improvement attain benefit. objectives this paper are summarize control, evaluate compare them advantages challenges integrity so as offer basis robust comparisons. include different actuation systems conventional spoiler actuators, shape memory alloys (SMAs) or pressurized elements. Near-term applications seen actuator while highest controllability identified several smaller actuators such SMAs.
